Exam Paper Leak in Nowshera: Entire BISE Mardan Staff Suspended

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan has suspended the entire examination staff at an exam center in Kheshgi Bala, Nowshera, following allegations of a leaked 9th-grade exam paper.

According to Professor Jehanzaib, Chairman of BISE Mardan, the suspended staff includes the examination hall superintendent, deputy superintendent, and five invigilators. “An inquiry has been initiated, and strict departmental action will be taken against those found responsible,” he said.

This development comes just a day before the commencement of the annual matriculation exams across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which are set to begin on April 8, 2025.

High-Level Meeting Reviews Exam Preparations Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A high-level online meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Faisal Khan Tarakai, to review final preparations for the annual matric exams.

The meeting was attended by Education Secretary Masood Ahmad, Special Secretaries Qaiser Alam and Khuda Bakhsh, Additional Secretaries, all Board Chairmen, the Director of Education, communication specialists from the education department, and other senior officials.

Officials reported that 475,807 students are expected to appear for the 9th-grade exams, while 444,404 will take the 10th-grade exams. A total of 3,634 exam centers have been established across the province, and 25,810 supervisory staff members have been deployed.

Board chairmen briefed the minister on the preparations, which include arrangements for seating, furniture, washrooms, electricity, water, invigilator duties, stationery, inspection teams, and secure delivery of exam papers.

Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy against cheating and the use of unfair means. He directed that students should be treated with respect and not be unnecessarily harassed by inspection teams.

Additionally, he instructed the EMIS Cell to coordinate with all education boards to establish a centralized CCTV monitoring cell. The Education Secretary also ordered the setup of control rooms at each board and at the departmental level to monitor the exams. A daily report system has been established, and a complaints portal, WhatsApp helpline, and hotline are now operational to ensure transparency and accountability during the examination period.
