Bloody Clash During Tirah Protest: Tribal Elders Hold Jirga with Security Forces, Some Demands Accepted

Report by CBN247 :

Following a deadly escalation in the Tirah Valley, where a 10-year-old girl was killed during a security operation and five more civilians died in subsequent protests, tribal elders and security officials held a jirga (traditional council) to address the growing tensions.

According to security sources, the jirga was held under the supervision of a brigadier, during which tribal elders presented five key demands:

Registration of an FIR against the security personnel allegedly involved in the killing of the 10-year-old girl;

Evacuation of civilian homes currently occupied by security forces within 15 days;

A complete ban on the use of drones against the local population

An end to harassment of civilians at checkpoints;

Financial compensation for the families of those killed.

Sources confirm that security officials agreed to some of the demands. The brigadier announced compensation of PKR 1.5 million for each deceased victim’s family and PKR 200,000 for each injured person. He also assured that all injured would receive free medical treatment.

However, the demands for filing cases against the personnel involved and vacating occupied homes were rejected, with the brigadier calling them “premature.”

Following the partial acceptance of their demands, the protesters agreed to end their demonstration.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Khyber leader Maulana Hazrat Khan Munib claimed that during the jirga held over the Tirah incident, the Tirah Brigade commander apologized to the Afridi tribes for the shooting and assured the jirga that a complete and transparent investigation would be conducted. He further stated that those involved would be prosecuted under the Army Act, and court-martial proceedings would be initiated.

The protest had erupted in response to the killing of a 10-year-old girl during a search operation a day earlier. On Saturday, her relatives and local residents gathered outside the Tirah Brigade Headquarters to demand justice. During the protest, security forces opened fire, resulting in the deaths of five more individuals and injuries to 17 others.
