Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for KP; Citizens Advised to Take Precautions

Peshawar, Pakistan :

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for widespread rainfall across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the next 12 to 24 hours, urging residents to brace for possible flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

According to the alert, heavy rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, Bannu, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan, along with surrounding areas.

Officials warn that localized urban and low-lying flooding may occur, particularly in poorly drained regions. In hilly districts, landslides and flash floods remain a serious risk. Strong winds and thunderstorms could also uproot weak trees, damage infrastructure, and cause short-term power outages. Additionally, heavy rainfall and dust could reduce visibility on roads, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has urged the public to take precautionary measures, including:

  1. Avoiding trees, signboards, and weak structures that may collapse during strong winds or storms.
  2. Parking vehicles in safe, covered areas to prevent damage from falling branches or debris.
  3. Limiting unnecessary travel during heavy rain to reduce the risk of accidents.
  4. Staying updated with the latest weather advisories and following instructions from local authorities.

Authorities have also appealed to travelers heading to hilly areas such as Swat, Kalam, and Chitral to remain vigilant and avoid risky routes during the downpour. Emergency response teams have been placed on alert to handle any potential flooding or landslide incidents.
