A four-day Oxford Pakistan Publishing & Mentoring Workshop, focused on Tackling Climate Change Challenges in Pakistan, was successfully held in Islamabad, bringing together leading academics and emerging scholars from Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The workshop was supported by the British Academy and delivered in collaboration with Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
The workshop aimed to strengthen academic writing and publishing capacity, foster collaborative research communities, and explore pathways for policy engagement on climate change and sustainability. Participants took part in structured writing blocks, high-level thematic sessions, and peer-learning activities designed to advance ongoing research projects and encourage international collaboration.
Led by Dr. Abrar Chaudhury, Senior Research Fellow at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, the programme covered key themes including citizen science, climate policy, nature finance, innovative research methodologies, food systems, and publication pathways with international scholars.
A special session on academic writing skills was delivered by Joshua Brown from Johns Hopkins University, who shared practical guidance on strengthening manuscripts, improving clarity and structure, and navigating international publication standards. The session was highly appreciated by participants for its practical relevance and hands-on approach.
Among the participants was Dr. Shakeel Khan, Head of the Business Incubation Centre, University of Peshawar, who highlighted the importance of globally relevant, policy-oriented research for developing countries like Pakistan. He noted that such initiatives help bridge local research priorities with international academic and policy discourses.
The workshop concluded with discussions on future research clusters, sustained collaboration, and next steps for continued engagement between Oxford and Pakistani scholars. The Oxford Pakistan Publishing & Mentoring Workshop marks a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s research ecosystem and enhancing international cooperation in addressing climate change challenges through evidence-based scholarship and policy engagement.
