SWAT – Two security personnel were killed and two others injured in clashes with militants in Swat’s Matta area, security sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attacks, which come amid a sharp rise in militant violence across KhyberPakhtunkhwa.
Security sources also claim that several militants were killed in the exchange.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a media wing of the armed forces, has not issued any statement about the said incident.
Security sources say one clash took place yesterday (Wednesday) in a mountainous area of Matta, followed by another encounter at night.
It has been reported that one soldier from the army and another from the Frontier Corps were killed, while two others were injured.
The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Two days earlier, (September 2), the security sources said that militants carried out a suicide attack on a Federal Constabulary Headquarters (FC) in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sources confirmed that six FC and military personnel were killed in the attack and ensuing clash with militants.
It said the building was damaged in the explosion, three civilians were injured, and five attackers were killed in the retaliatory operation.
In Pakistan, the number of militant attacks rose to alarming levels in August. As in previous months, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province witnessed the highest number of attacks and casualties. In the province alone, 106 militant attacks occurred, leaving 130 people dead.
According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), militant attacks in August increased by 74 percent compared to July this year.
The report stated that 143 attacks took place in August, making it the deadliest month in the past ten years. The number of attacks in August was the highest since February 2014.
