Peshawar: Veteran U.S. diplomat Tom Eckert has officially assumed charge as the new Consul General at the United States Consulate General in Peshawar, bringing with him over two decades of diplomatic experience.

Welcoming his arrival, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker praised Eckert’s appointment, stating:

In his remarks, Consul General Eckert expressed his enthusiasm for his new role in the region:

“I have heard so much about the culture, heritage, and famous hospitality of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I am eager to strengthen our vital partnerships to promote economic opportunities and to work together toward a brighter and more peaceful future.”

Eckert joined the U.S. Department of State in 2003, and most recently served as the Senior Regional Security Officer and Chargé d’Affaires in Cyprus. His previous postings include diplomatic assignments in Gabon, Vietnam, Burma, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Eckert holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Kutztown University. He is married.
