The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution seeking an extension in the repatriation period of Afghan refugees and has called on the federal government to review its policy regarding Afghanistan. The resolution was presented by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Mian Sharafat and was passed with complete consensus in the House.
According to the text of the resolution, extending the repatriation timeline would help facilitate better administrative arrangements for Afghan refugees. It also emphasized that refugees should be allowed to return with their household belongings. The House stressed the need for urgent measures to restore trust between the two neighboring countries. The resolution further demanded that the federal government revise its Afghanistan policy and grant the KP government permission to hold direct negotiations with Afghan authorities.
In the same session, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly also passed the “Right to Information (Amendment) Bill 2025,” presented by Law Minister Aftab Alam.
Additionally, the Assembly unanimously approved a joint resolution against Israeli atrocities on the Palestinian people. The resolution was jointly presented by government member Abdul Salam and opposition member Adnan Wazir. It called on the federal government to take strong diplomatic initiatives for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, convene an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and mobilize international organizations to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Palestine. The resolution also urged for immediate humanitarian aid for the oppressed people of Gaza and advocated for a boycott of Israeli products.
These resolutions reflect the province’s stance on key national and international policy matters and were passed unanimously by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
