Afghan National Amin ul Haq Seeks Delisting him from theUN,US Blacklists

KABUL — Amin ul Haq, also known as Dr. Amini, has appealed to have his name removed from United Nations and United States terror blacklists.

An Afghan national from Nangarhar province, he was sanctioned in the early 2000s over his suspected links to al-Qaeda and its former leader Osama bin Laden.

Dr Amini was detained for several years in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Qatar for interrogation.

He was arrested last year in Pakistan by the Counter Terrorism Department, Punjab, but later released for lack of evidence. Despite his release, his name remains on international sanctions lists, restricting his movement and financial access.

In a recent petition, Haq declared his innocence and argued that his detention without charges caused severe psychological and financial harm to his family. His lawyers say his continued listing violates international human rights norms.

The U.N. sanctions committee describes Haq as a former security coordinator for bin Laden who was involved in supporting al-Qaeda operations. Bin Laden was killed in a 2011 U.S. raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Haq’s case highlights the long-lasting impact of post-9/11 counterterrorism measures, as individuals once suspected of militant ties continue to face restrictions decades later.
