United States Sends Flood Relief Assistance to Pakistan

The United States has begun delivering emergency flood relief assistance to Pakistan after widespread and catastrophic flooding displaced thousands and caused large-scale destruction.

According to the U.S. Department of State, the relief package includes food, shelter, and other lifesaving supplies. In addition, the U.S. military has delivered critical equipment to the Pakistan Army through C-17 and C-130 aircraft, which landed at Nur Khan Air Base on Sunday.

U.S. Mission to Pakistan Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker, who was present at the airbase during the arrival of the first consignments, expressed deep sorrow over the devastation.

“The United States is profoundly saddened by the loss of life and destruction of homes and livelihoods,” Baker said. “In response to a request from the Government of Pakistan, the Department of State and the U.S. military approved foreign assistance funding and critical supplies to support national response efforts in the most affected areas.”

Officials said the assistance will be distributed immediately to flood-hit regions in coordination with Pakistani authorities.
