Peshawar: “The Eco-Tourism Project in Kalam’s enchanting Ushu Forest will unlock fresh opportunities for local employment,” said Secretary of Tourism.
In line with the tourism vision of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the provincial government has announced major initiatives to further enhance the appeal of its tourist destinations.
Through joint efforts of the Department of Tourism and the Forest Department, an Eco-Tourism Zone is being established in the picturesque Ushu Forest of Kalam Valley. Following the success of the collaborative Munro Trek project, this new initiative marks another milestone toward boosting tourism and strengthening the local economy.
A traditionally inspired rest area will also be developed within Ushu Forest to provide additional comfort and facilities for visitors. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Tourism Dr. Abdul Samad emphasized that Ushu Forest is far more than just a natural woodland—it is a captivating destination for travelers.
He further noted that the “Ushu Eco-Tourism Zone” will serve as a model project for the province, with dedicated seasonal mapping for both summer and winter, ensuring that tourists can enjoy the serene environment of Ushu year-round. The project is also expected to generate significant local employment opportunities.
The Forest Department has reiterated its firm commitment to protecting Ushu’s pristine natural environment, making it clear that no activities harmful to the forest will be permitted. According to the Department of Tourism, additional eco-tourism projects are being developed in collaboration with the Forest Department and local communities to both safeguard the environment and unlock new horizons for sustainable tourism in the region
