The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council has formally expressed gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump for offering to mediate a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict. In a letter delivered through the U.S. ambassador, the Council hailed Trump’s statement as a historic move and a new ray of hope for the Kashmiri people.
Signed by AJK Council Chairman Muhammad Hanif Malik along with members Sardar Abdul Razzaq, Khawaja Tariq Saeed, Shuja Khurshid Rathore, Muhammad Adnan Khalid, and Muhammad Younas Mir, the letter described Trump’s mediation offer as a bold step that has stirred the conscience of the international community.
The Council emphasized that the United States has a pivotal role to play in promoting lasting peace, justice, and stability in the South Asian region. “President Trump’s proposal could prove to be a milestone in resolving the Kashmir issue,” the members wrote.
They reiterated that the Kashmiri people must be granted their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions. The letter urged global powers to step forward and help bring an end to this decades-old conflict.
The Council also commended U.S. diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and maintain ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), stressing that a peaceful resolution, in line with international law and norms, is essential for regional and long-term peace.
Additionally, the AJK Council called on world governments, human rights organizations, and international media to amplify the voices of Kashmiris and take serious notice of human rights violations being committed in Indian-administered Kashmir.
