KP Mines Minister Calls for Free and Transparent Elections in Gilgit-Baltistan


PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mines and Minerals, Arif Ahmadzai, has stressed the importance of holding free, fair, and transparent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, saying that a credible democratic process is essential for strengthening public confidence and ensuring regional stability.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the minister said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have historically played a significant role in the democratic and constitutional development of the region. He noted that their active participation in the upcoming elections would further strengthen democratic traditions and values.
Ahmadzai expressed hope that all political parties and stakeholders would conduct their election campaigns in a peaceful, responsible, and constructive manner while promoting unity, tolerance, and respect for democratic norms.
The minister also urged the relevant authorities to make comprehensive arrangements to ensure a transparent electoral process and provide voters across Gilgit-Baltistan with all necessary facilities to exercise their democratic right.
According to the election schedule announced by the authorities, elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly are set to take place on June 7, 2026.
