Body of Missing Child Recovered from Swat River After 21 Days Amid Ongoing Flood Crisis

Report By CBN247 :

Swat, July 17, 2025 — The body of a young boy, identified as Abdullah from Sialkot, was recovered today from the Swat River near Barikot-Ghaligay, 21 days after he was reported missing. Rescue 1122 Swat confirmed the recovery, marking the conclusion of a sustained search operation that had been underway since late June.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson, teams had been conducting daily search efforts in the river, despite difficult conditions caused by heavy rains and rising water levels. The child’s identity was confirmed by family members upon recovery. After completing legal formalities, Rescue 1122 will transport the remains to the family’s hometown in Daska, Sialkot via ambulance.

Abdullah is among several casualties linked to the severe flooding that has gripped the Swat region throughout July. Continuous monsoon rains have triggered flash floods in multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing widespread destruction, displacing dozens of families, and leading to several drowning incidents.

The latest recovery highlights the dangers posed by the swelling Swat River, which has repeatedly overflowed due to glacial melt and heavy downpours. Rescue 1122 and local authorities have urged the public to stay away from riverbanks and avoid unnecessary travel near flood-prone zones as the province remains on high alert.

The tragedy of Abdullah’s death has underscored the human toll of the region’s ongoing climate vulnerability, with emergency services stretched to their limits in their efforts to prevent further loss of life.
