Police in the Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have stated that district police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) jointly carried out operations against militants and claimed to have killed five militants.
According to a press release from Upper Dir police, eight police personnel were injured during a clash with the militants, and one local civilian was killed.
It was stated that operations were conducted in the areas of Upper Dir, Doobando, Barikot, Salamkot, and Hatun Dara.
According to police, an encounter with militants took place early this morning in Salamkot, in which eight police officers were injured and a local civilian lost his life.
Police have claimed that checkpoints have been established at key locations and along routes used by terrorists in the area.
Earlier, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had claimed late last night that it carried out joint operations with the police in the Upper Dir district of Malakand and killed two terrorists.
CTD had stated that during the encounter with militants, one civilian was killed and five police officers were injured.
According to the CTD’s statement, the intelligence-based operations were jointly conducted, resulting in the death of the terrorists.
Police have claimed that the killed terrorists were involved in an attack on a police mobile unit a week ago and were preparing a major terrorist plan, which has now been thwarted.
According to the police press release, during the operations against the militants, the terrorists put up heavy resistance, resulting in five police officers being injured and one civilian wounded.
CTD has stated that clearance operations are ongoing in the area and will continue until the terrorist network in the region is dismantled.
