CTD Foils Major Terror Attack in Peshawar; Suicide Bomber and Handler Killed

Report by CBN247 :

A major terrorist attack targeting a sensitive installation in Peshawar was successfully averted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Shamshato area of rural Peshawar on Saturday. Two militants, including a would-be suicide bomber, were killed in the encounter.

According to official sources, CTD Peshawar launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of operatives from the banned international terror group Fitna Al-Khawarij (FAK), affiliated with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in the Urmarh area. The operatives were allegedly planning an imminent large-scale attack in the provincial capital.

During the raid, CTD forces engaged in a brief but intense exchange of fire with the suspects. Both militants were neutralized without any casualties to the security personnel. One of the slain terrorists was identified as Muneer Ahmed, son of Muhammad Gul, a resident of Nangarhar, Afghanistan. He had been under surveillance since November 2024 after reportedly entering Pakistan from Khost, Afghanistan, with the intention of executing a suicide attack.

CTD officials confirmed that Muneer Ahmed had been nominated as a suicide bomber in FIR No. 161 dated November 23, 2024, under multiple sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at CTD Police Station Peshawar. The identity of the second slain militant, believed to be the handler of the suicide bomber, is still being verified.

Weapons and explosives recovered from the scene included a submachine gun (SMG) with ammunition, a pistol, and a suicide jacket, indicating the seriousness of the planned assault.

A new case is being registered at the CTD Police Station Peshawar, and a specialized investigation team has been tasked with probing the incident and tracing the wider terror network involved.

CTD officials hailed the operation as a testament to their department’s vigilance and readiness to combat threats posed by extremist groups. “This successful action reflects CTD’s commitment to safeguarding public lives and maintaining peace across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” a senior official stated.
