The threat level has risen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after continuous rainfall, with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issuing an emergency GLOF alert.
Authorities have warned of a high risk of glacial lake outburst floods in Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan, urging both residents and tourists to adopt immediate precautionary measures.
According to PDMA, dangerous situations may arise at any moment. District administrations have been directed to activate early warning systems, conduct evacuation drills, and closely monitor vulnerable areas. Citizens have been strictly advised to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and streams and refrain from driving vehicles through strong water currents.
The authority revealed that rescue teams, emergency supplies, and evacuation sites in the at-risk areas have already been put on high alert. Meanwhile, the NHA, FWO, and C&W departments have been instructed to remain prepared for the timely restoration of road networks.
